After rolling out Messenger Rooms Shortcut with WhatsApp Beta tester, the company is rolling out new QR code support. With the help of this feature, you can add someone to WhatsApp without sharing your number. All you have to do is to scan a QR code and instantly user will be added to your contact list. QR Code feature is implemented in both Android and iOS platforms in the same way. To start using the feature, you need to be need to be running WhatsApp v2.20.171 (Which is available for beta testers).
Add Someone to WhatsApp using QR Code
Launch WhatsApp on your phone and then tap on three vertical dots icon and select Settings. In the Setting menu, you will see a new Barcode icon on the right side, tap on it. Doing this will take you to QR Code tab where you will find your Personal QR Code. From WhatsApp QR Code tab, you can share this QR code with new friends, so that they can add you in their contact list quickly. For that, tap on the Share icon available on the upper right corner. Doing this will bring the Share menu, from their you can share the code wherever you want. Keep in mind that whenever you share your personal QR Code with new friends, you’re also sharing your mobile number. When you share Personal QR Code, the people on the other side have to visit QR Code tab and switch Scan Code tab. WhatsApp will instantly show you a message “WhatsApp contact found” with user phone number accompanied by option to add into your contacts.
Reset QR Code in WhatsApp
In case, you mistakenly send your personal QR Code to wrong personal, then fret not! You can immediately reset it and it will no longer work. Here’s how you can do that: In the QR Code tab, tap on three dots vertical icon available on the upper-right corner and select Reset QR Code. Next, Reset QR code dialog box will appear, tab on the Reset button. It’s expected that, the company will roll out QR Codes feature in the stable version soon.
