A successful text messaging experience involves three factors – the device, the app, and the network. If any of them starts acting up, you will notice the message delivery failure. We will go through every possible option considering all three factors in this guide to fix the issue. Let’s start with the basic fix.

1. Check the iPhone’s Messages settings

First, you need to make sure that the relevant Settings for Messages are enabled on your iPhone. To do so, follow the steps below.

Good coverage area. Disabled Airplane mode. To check, go to Settings or Control Center. There isn’t a ‘No network’ error on the status bar. Do Not Disturb mode is disabled.

Note: If you don’t see the MMS Messaging option, your carrier may not support it. Kindly confirm with them for more clarity.

2. Check blocked numbers

It may happen that you blocked your friends or family members due to some old spat and forgot about it. Check and unblock them by following the below steps.  Now, you should be able to receive messages from unblocked numbers. If not, move on to the next method.

3. Delete your iPhone’s old messages

If you have tons of messages on the iPhone, it might prevent you from receiving messages, especially MMS messages, from your Android friends. Go ahead, delete some old irrelevant messages from the iPhone.  You don’t have to worry with iPhone to iPhone, as it uses the iMessage platform.

4. Disable RCS on Android device

So far, we have talked about the troubleshooting methods on the iPhone. The problem could be from the Android side as well.  RCS (Rich Communications Services) is Google’s version of iMessage to counter the growing popularity of the service. Google aims to deliver a close-to-iMessage experience with read receipts, typing indicators, group messages, and more.  If the RCS service is enabled on the Android device, disable it from the Messages Settings. Note: Not all Android devices have the RCP feature yet.

5. Update carrier settings on iPhone

The problem may be from your carrier’s end. When I first got my iPhone XR, I started getting messages error on the device. As it turned out, the issue was from the carrier side, and they had already issued an update to fix the problem. Follow the steps below to update carrier settings.

6. Update your iPhone

The error can be due to the latest iOS glitch on the device. Thankfully, Apple is quick to resolve such annoyances. Go to iPhone Settings → General → Software Update and install the latest iOS patch on the device.

7. Reset Network Settings

A wrong network setting on the iPhone can interfere with the whole messaging experience. The good news is, you can easily reset network settings on the device by following the steps below. Note: This will reset all the Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, etc., you have used before.

8. Reset All Settings

A wrong setting on the iPhone can result in a text message failure from the Android device. If you are none of the above methods worked, try resetting all settings. Note: This won’t affect your phone’s data like photos, videos, files, etc. However, it will reset the device settings to default. You will have to set it up from scratch.

9. Contact your carrier

There can be times when the carrier itself is having server issues on their side. If none of the tricks are working for you, contact your local carrier to troubleshoot the issue. You can either connect with them on social media or directly call or email the carrier to share the issue.  I hope the above guide helped you fix the issue. If you are still facing problems, contact Apple support for more advanced solutions. So, which trick worked for you? Share in the comments section below. You would like to read these posts as well:
