In addition to that, I will be rating the TV’s performance at the end of every section based on my personal opinion. Thus, to get all the information you need about the VIZIO V505 H19, I urge you to read this review to the end.

My Initial Thoughts

VIZIO has been in business since 2002 and it’s obvious that they have a reputation for producing affordable TV sets. Asides from their televisions being affordable, they also offer adequate features and performances.

Thus, in order to expand its collection of affordable televisions, VIZIO released the V505 H19 in 2020. This smart television, like most VIZIO televisions, offers decent features at a low-cost price. Some of these features include a high contrast ratio, low input lag, and HDR. For the price, the VIZIO V505 H19 had a price tag of $363.99 as of May 2022, when this review article was published. With such a low price tag, one would expect this smart television to have one of two drawbacks. Do you wish to find out about these drawbacks and more about the VIZIO V505 H19? Well, you have to continue reading!

VIZIO V505 H19 Design, Dimension, and Weight Review

As expected from a $300+ television, the VIZIO V505 H19 comes with a simple and basic design. Furthermore, the bezels that surround its display are thin but not like what you would get on expensive models. Specifically, the top and side bezels measure 0.50-inch. However, the bottom bezel is slightly thicker because it houses a “VIZIO” inscription at the center. Moreover, the bezels are made of plastic and have a glossy-black finish. Proceeding to the legs, the VIZIO V505 H19 stands erect on two plastic V-shaped legs. These legs span the television from one edge to the other – they are positioned at the extreme edges of the TV. Hence, if you aren’t wall-mounting the television, you will require a fairly large tabletop to place it on. Besides, the legs are very strong and provide enough support for the TV to stand straight with minimal wobble. Moving to the rear of the VIZIO V505 H19, the upper part has a metal plate covering that is completely plain and slim. Meanwhile, the lower part of the television’s rear is made of plastic, and it is somewhat bulky. This is due to the fact that it houses all the television’s electronics, ports, and components. However, due to the bulkiness of the bottom rear, the television will slightly bulge out when wall-mounted. Speaking of which, the VIZIO V505 H19 features four 400 x 200 VESA mount holes on its rear that allows for wall-mounting. Sadly, this television’s rear doesn’t have any form of cable management system. As a result, to ensure a neat setup, you will need to arrange the cable attached to the television manually. When it comes to the dimension and weight, the VIZIO V505 H19 measures 1120.9 x 61.5 x 650.0 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 9800 g. Comparatively, this television is lighter and less thick than the LG 50UK6090PUA. Specifically, the LG 50UK6090PUA weighs 10704.7 g and measures 1132.8 x 88.9 x 662.9 mm  (W x D x H). Hence, to bring this design review section to a close, I will be rating the VIZIO V505 H19 an eight out of ten.

VIZIO V505 H19 Display Features and Picture Quality Review

It is okay if a TV has a good design, however, the display performance and features are crucial. In truth, a sleek-looking TV won’t be of any good if its display properties and picture quality are substandard. Thankfully, regarding the VIZIO V505 H19, its 50-inch LED display offers excellent features and good picture quality. To give more details, thanks to its 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution, this television’s display can render colorful, sharp, and clear images. In addition to that, the VIZIO V505 H19’s display delivers an outstanding contrast ratio of 5,257:1. Due to this contrast ratio, the display is able to produce deep and rich blacks. As a result, films with lots of shadowy or dark scenes like horror movies will be a joy to watch on the VIZIO V505 H19. Also, the television should be ideal for usage in dark rooms. For your information, contrast ratio is the distinction between the darkest shades of a display to the brightest shades. Hence, the higher the contrast ratio, the deeper the blacks on the display would be. On the downside, the VIZIO V505 H19’s display has poor viewing angles. Due to this, watching the television off-center or from the sides will result in colors looking washed out and a reduction in picture quality. Hence, the VIZIO V505 H19 won’t be suitable for usage in wide room settings. Aside from its poor viewing angles, the VIZIO V505 H19 isn’t bright enough to be used in well-lit rooms or outdoors. This is due to the fact that the display offers a poor peak brightness of 209 nits. Nevertheless, this peak brightness should be enough for the display to work well in moderately-lit rooms. On a positive note, the VIZIO V505 H19 supports various HDR (High Dynamic Range) formats. Specifically, the television supports HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and HLG. These HDR formats allow the television’s display to produce realistic and life-like picture quality when rendering HDR-support content. If you don’t know, HDR-support content can be found on streaming platforms like Netflix and Prime Video. Impressively, the VIZIO V505 H19 comes with an upscaling technology. This upscaling technology is called the Spatial Scaling Engine. Thanks to the upscaling technology, this VIZIO television will be able to convert HD content or any lower resolution content to 4K quality. In addition to the Spatial Scaling Engine upscaling technology, the VIZIO V505 H19 features an IQ Picture Processor. This processor is responsible for quicker image processing and smooth transition. Having said all that, let us discuss the motion performance of the VIZIO V505 H19. To begin with, this television comes with a refresh rate of 60 Hz, which allows the display to render smoother images. In case you are curious, refresh rate is the amount of time per second a display is able to refresh or update a new image. Apart from the 60 Hz refresh rate, the VIZIO V505 H19 also comes with Dynamic Motion Rate:120. The Dynamic Motion Rate:120 doubles the refresh rate of the television, making its display produce less blurry images. That aside, let us talk about the response time of the television. However, before mentioning the response time of the television, I would love to explain what response time is all about. Response time refers to the time it takes a display to transition from one color to another. Thus, the VIZIO V505 H19 has a response time of 22.2 milliseconds. Sadly, this response time isn’t fast enough and there will be noticeable blur trails when the display is rendering fast-moving content. On a positive note, the VIZIO V505 H19 is good for gaming because its display offers a low input lag of 10.6 milliseconds. In case you are wondering, input lag is the time it takes a display to register signal input from external sources. All things considered, I will rate the VIZIO V505 H19 an eight out of ten in this display features review section.

VIZIO V505 H19 Sound Features Review

Concerning sound quality and performance, the VIZIO V505 H19 doesn’t impress much. To give more details, this television comes with a pair of 2-channel 8-watts speakers. These speakers produce adequate sound quality but are not loud enough to fill a large room with sound. Moreover, the television lacks a built-in subwoofer, meaning it won’t be able to produce enough bass. Hence, you won’t be able to enjoy the rumbling and thumping sounds in bass-heavy movies. However, you can consider buying a soundbar alongside the television so as to get an adequate bass production. On the bright side, the VIZIO V505 H19’s speakers produce a well-balanced and clear dialogue. If you are curious, dialogue means the conversation between two or more people. As a result of its speakers’ dialogue clarity, you will be able to clearly hear and comprehend discussions from conversation-driven content. For example, news, TV shows, documentaries, and sports commentaries. That aside, the VIZIO V505 H19 comes with Dolby Audio sound technology. This sound technology enhances the speakers’ surround sound production, making them deliver an immersive and cinema-like sound quality. Before I conclude this section, let’s discuss the distortion performance of the VIZIO V505 H19. To start with, the television delivered a score of 0.450% on a THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) test. In brief, the THD test is a sound test that evaluates the level of distortion a sound system is capable of producing. Furthermore, the lower the percentage on this test, the lesser the distortion the sound system is able to produce. Therefore, with a THD score as low as 0.450%, distortion on the VIZIO V505 H19 will be very minimal and might not be noticeable. In case you are wondering, distortion in this context is the deformation of audio frequency, making a sound system produce unwanted noises. All in all, I will be rating the VIZIO V505 H19 a seven out of ten in this sound features review section.

VIZIO V505 H19 Ports and Connectivity Features Review

The VIZIO V505 H19 features a decent amount of ports that are all located on its rear. Moreover, some of these ports are facing the left while others a directly on the television’s rear. Starting with the left-facing ports, you will see one USB port and three HDMI ports. These HDMI ports are labeled HDMI “1”, “2”, and “3” and the HDMI “1” supports ARC (Audio Return Channel). Hence, using the HDMI 1, you will be able to easily connect a soundbar to the VIZIO V505 H19. That aside, the ports directly on the television’s rear include one composite input, an RF port, and optical audio out. That’s not all, the television also features an Ethernet port directly on its back. Meanwhile, when it comes to wireless connectivity, the VIZIO V505 H19 features 802.11ac Dual-Band Wi-Fi but lacks Bluetooth. Moving on, the VIZIO V505 H19 comes with a basic XRT140 remote control with a plastic body and matte-black finish. This remote features a good number of buttons but lacks a built-in mic for voice input. Some of these buttons include a circle-shaped navigation button, a menu button, and a home button. Additionally, the remote has six dedicated buttons for quick access to Vudu, Netflix, Hulu, Xumo, Redbox, and Prime Video, Other buttons on the remote include volume rockers and channel rockers. In conclusion, the VIZIO V505 H19 features a good amount of ports and a basic remote with lots of buttons. However, the television lacks Bluetooth. Hence, I will rate the VIZIO V505 H19 an eight out of ten in this ports and connectivity review section.

VIZIO V505 H19 Smart Features Review

The VIZIO V505 H19, like most VIZIO smart televisions, comes with the SmartCast operating system. Although the interface of the SmartCast OS doesn’t look as glamorous as that of the WebOS or Tizen OS, it’s easy to use. Also, it offers smooth animation, making transitions between content and apps appealing. Speaking of apps, the SmartCast OS offers a vast list of popular streaming services and applications. Fortunately, apart from the paid streaming services, the SmartCast OS also offers quite a number of free streaming services. Some of these streaming services include Magellan TV, Tubi, and WatchFree. However, this operating system doesn’t come with a built-in app store for downloading more streaming services. Hence, apart from the ones the OS comes with, you cannot get more streaming services or apps. Nevertheless, because the TV is Cast-enabled, you should be able to stream/share content from your smart devices to the television. Besides, with the help of the SmartCast mobile app, you should be able to control the television with your smartphone. After thorough consideration, I believe the VIZIO V505 H19 deserves a rating of an eight out of ten in this smart features review section.

My Final Thoughts

The VIZIO V505 H19 is an entry-level affordable smart television that offers a 4K display with good picture quality and features. Furthermore, this television supports HDR which enhances its picture quality. Also, the TV comes with a good contrast ratio and two strong legs. That’s not all, as a VIZIO smart television, the VIZIO V505 H19 features the SmartCast OS that offers plenty of major streaming services. However, the sound performance of this television is average and its display offers poor viewing angles. Also, the television doesn’t come with Bluetooth. Nonetheless, if you are in need of a 50-inch smart television for casual viewing, the VIZIO V505 H19 is worth the thought. I hope you found this VIZIO V505 H19 review helpful?
